Veteran's Walk is one of our most loved installations and has become a focal point for remembrance in the heart of our town.
But with the wooden planters now coming to the end of their life, and important VE Day celebrations in 2025, we thought that it was the right time to refresh the project and ensure that it will last for many years to come.
So, with the help of volunteers, and some exciting collaborations, we are embarking on an ambitious overhaul of the installation including new planters, murals, tributes to service personnel on land, sea and air, and their animal counterparts too.
The site has recently been cleared, and over the coming weeks we hope you will enjoy seeing us rebuild the installation, better than ever.
Veteran's Walk
Veteran's Walk has come a long way over the past few weeks, with everything removed we have been able to completely replace the old planters with new, now made from 100% recycled plastic, we have kept hundreds of kilos of plastics from going to landfill. And out planters are rot-proof, waterproof, strong and long-lasting.
People have also watched as local street artist, Evan has painted in a vibrant sky and backdrop to the plain waals and fence.
The Spitfire has Returned Home!
All our mural paintwork is now complete and it's great to see our iconic Spitfire cleaned up and back in place with over 220 stunning new poppies cascading down over Veteran's Walk.
The keen-eyed will also notice a few new additions flying through the clouds too.
